Rosli Mansor — About

Since receiving his first guitar at the age of 10, Rosli’s passion for music has steadily grown, shaped by influences like The Beatles, The Carpenters, and the Bee Gees. As his skills evolved, he drew inspiration from guitar greats such as Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton, Bill Frisell, Robben Ford, and fretless guitar virtuoso Erkan Oğur.

In the early ’90s, he began teaching at Yamaha Music School in Singapore, where he spent 24 years before moving to Swee Lee Music as a Senior Music Instructor. At Swee Lee, he not only mentored students but also developed instructional content for Guitar.com, a BandLab Technologies platform, crafting learning resources for the guitar community.

Beyond music education, Rosli has built a reputation as a composer and arranger, working on commissioned projects for short films, documentaries, theater, and advertising. As a session musician and performer, he has recorded in studios, appeared on national television and radio, and headlined a sold-out concert at the Esplanade. His debut instrumental album, Dragged (2007), cemented his place in Singapore’s rock guitar scene and positioned him as a pioneer in the country’s rock instrumental movement. This was followed by Deeper Than Purple (2010), which received critical acclaim from major publications.

Rosli’s established reputation in the music industry has earned him endorsements from Yamaha Guitars, Laney Amplifications, Valley Arts (under Gibson), Providence Pedals, and Marshall Amplification. His commitment to teaching continues with a range of customized programs designed to help students learn guitar performance and songwriting. His songwriting program, featuring his unique Tri-M pedagogy, guides students in creating music with intent (Motive), emotion (Mood), and musical structure (Modes).

Today, Rosli is exploring new creative frontiers with Mynahchords, leading a team of writers, animators, artists, programmers, and musicians. This project merges music with visual storytelling and illustration, delving into the healing power of sound.

Music flows through the cracks, filling spaces only the heart knows.
