Rosli’s passion for music and his genuine demeanour have completely changed my perspective on learning music. After years of struggling with the strict rigour of classical piano (I eventually gave up), I ventured towards guitar and taught my myself how to play it casually. As time passed and my musical tastes broadened, I realised that I wanted to take guitar more seriously and made the decision to pursue music lessons again. I never imagined learning a musical instrument could be enjoyable until I discovered Rosli.
I was initially captivated by his rock background and live gigs, but what truly resonated was my first trial lesson with him. Not only did Rosli challenge me to contemplate my motivations and goals, but his teaching approach was equally captivating. Encountering someone who believed I could be a musician, particularly as a creative who battles with imposter syndrome herself, was extremely refreshing, and I immediately knew that he would make a great mentor for me. He is also honest about his abilities and doesn't pretend to possess secret tricks. Instead, he explains concepts in a methodical manner. Having been a self-taught guitarist for many years, there are numerous knowledge gaps which he identifies and addresses accordingly. Though time is a constraint, he is keen to explain in detail and outlines the plans for upcoming lessons which is beneficial if one wants to prepare ahead of time.
This is testimony to his dedication to his students' musical journey. Having a lesson with him is like a conversation; it's not an impersonal affair like a business transaction. While explaining concepts, he pulls relatable analogies from real life to convey his points. The seemingly abstract concepts become intuitive and one is convinced that the secret to music is that there isn't any. Rather, it's down to the fundamental elements and Rosli never ceases to drive this point home. As such, when practicing, it helps to keep these key points and apply them in bite-sized chunks.
Apart from music, he engages the student on other parts of their life and is keen to know how it relates to their interest in music. Ultimately, music isn't an isolated element in our lives but rather interconnected with other elements. Through these conversations, Rosli delves into the inner workings of the student to identify their needs. However, he doesn't spoon-feed answers and asks thought-provoking questions such that the student has the space to reflect. This introspective aspect to music is novel. Like any form of creative endeavour, chemistry is important and this makes it enjoyable to learn from Rosli.

I first discovered Rosli after a Google search and I was intrigued and impressed by the way he broke down the process of learning and understanding music through his Tri-M methodology.
It was something that I had never seen before with any other guitar teacher or course. I was particulary happy that he put equal importance on the creative aspects of making music along with the fundamentals of music theory and practical exercises.
It was also important to me to find a teacher who composed their own music, and after listening to his albums, I knew he was the teacher for me.
Rosli took the time to get to know me, my motivations, passions and goals long before our first lesson, and he tailors each class to my needs. He is very passionate about teaching and helping me get the most out of every class. He has a gift for explaining concepts in a very easy to understand and digestable way. My first lesson with him made me understand more about the guitar and about music than my many years fumbling around on the internet, looking for any little bit of information I could find.

At the beginning, my friends have been learning guitar from Rosli so occasionally his name will pop out when we are discussing music in general. I have heard about his name before in the music scene, but I am not familiar at all. At this point of time, my playing has basically reached a plateau and in fact, I also stopped for a long time due to lack of motivation and nobody to guide me at all. Besides having some knowledge about some chords and a bit of theory, I hardly know anything about the mechanism behind it.
One fine day, as my interest in guitar started to reignite again and I began to practise casually, I decided to take a leap of faith and take lessons from him based on my friend's recommendation, basically starting from the basics again. This time I know if I want to maintain the consistency and improve my playing, I need to have the right guidance. If not, after a while, I know that I will fall into the same rut again and stop playing.
This is where Rosli comes in. He is truly a legend and learning from him is a privilege. As a teacher, he is an amazing mentor, humble and patient too. He always takes his time to explain the mechanism and rationale behind each theory and ensure that I understand it fully before proceeding to new things. This way, I get to stay on track without being overloaded with too much information. It has been an amazing journey to learn from him and most importantly, the practical aspect of applying the theories on the guitar playing itself. Each class is highly interactive and personalized depending on your end goal, I am always gaining new knowledge from him after each lesson.
Those who are still considering learning from him, my only advice is just go for it, trust me, you will not regret it. He is not just a teacher; he is also a friend who really cares about you achieving your musical potential.
I am looking forward to continuing my musical journey with him and ultimately becoming the player that I want to be.

I come from a background of playing guitar casually, with no formal music education, so meeting Rosli was an eye-opening experience. He was able to unveil the reasons why my favourite songs and solos sounded the way they did - explaining in simple terms, and giving insights on the inner workings on key signatures, blues forms, shapes and music theories.
Sessions with Rosli are always informative and as he guides with patience, with discussions on where I, as a learner, wanted to go next, whether it's uncovering the inner workings of a guitar lick, or getting started on writing an original song, or sticking to the basics of practising in time, and recording for reflective learning.

Rosli Mansor is a man who needs no introduction. He is our home-grown and one of Singapore’s greatest guitar virtuoso.
I first met Rosli during my NS days back in 2003, when I attended a trial group class at Yamaha Music School in Plaza Singapura. Despite having a huge class size, Rosli paid close attention each and every student.
I will always remember that he came over to me and corrected my “unorthodox” picking technique (which I have developed as a self-taught guitarist in the years before). Little did I realise that just one simple tip from Rosli would improve my playing for many years to come! Rosli definitely left a lasting impression on me. 13 years later in 2016, I have the great honour and opportunity to learn under Rosli again in Swee Lee Music.
My music journey under the tutelage of Rosli is not simply just music theories and guitar techniques. My greatest takeaway is Rosli’s philosophy toward music. He shares the same philosophy he holds in life towards his love and passion for music as well.
His unique 3Ms – Motive, Mood and Mode is an important practical and philosophical concept that I have learnt and hold close to my heart today. To me Rosli is not just another guitar guru or musician, but an artist! Respect to you always, Mr Rosli and see you in our next class!

I was introduced to Rosli by a guitarist friend of mine. Rosli is a very patient and observant teacher. Before I met Rosli i was learning mostly from beginner's classes and from the internet. Before Rosli mentored me, my guitar techniques were very flawed and my musical knowledge was very poor. He strengthened my guitar techniques and musical foundations, gradually improving my techniques and musical knowledge.
Learning from Rosli has been very fun and inspiring. He's very encouraging and has widened my view of music. His interpretation of music has inspired me to create my own music, too. Every lesson is a journey of understanding music and self-exploration. Each lesson is very impactful, after every lesson I always think to myself - 'I have so much to learn'.
Rosli also gives out weekly exercises to strengthen the weaknesses in my techniques. He understands my weaknesses and focuses on improving them. After my lessons I always want to learn more and would ask him more about my doubts, and he always explains my doubts patiently and I'm never afraid to ask him questions.
I would recommend Rosli as a guitar mentor as he pinpoints your weaknesses and strengthens them. He is also very insightful and has imparted me a lot of theoretical knowledge. Lastly he has been very inspiring to me in my musical journey and has helped me find the deeper meaning of music.

Rosli is a great teacher. He is patient, cheerful and knows his stuff! He plays guitar extremely well and teaches from experience. As a new student, i was able to pick up foundations fairly quickly. However, the road to becoming a good guitarist is long and I would occasionally get distracted and lose interest. This is where inspiration is KEY and keeps you going!

I used to play the piano and cello, but have stopped for about 20 years. A friend of mine introduced me to Rosli when I wanted to pick up the guitar.
Rosli has always been patient and encouraging, teaching me from scratch. While each lesson is fun, Rosli also makes sure that I understand the technicalities and techniques of guitar playing, and also teaches me music theory.
While I had initially wanted to pick up a new instrument for fun, Rosli encouraged me to have goals, so that I can strive to meet them, and improve along the way. Jamming with Rosli is also endlessly fun.

A worthy teacher aka 'sensei'.
The day I met sensei was when I joined Yamaha to learn guitar. From first impression, he was a really funny guy yet enthusiastic and patient. His passion for music is phenomenal, being at Yamaha from the 1980s all the way up to the 2010s. From what I experienced, lessons were never boring. Besides the course book from yamaha, he would also give contents from other books that he felt was good and brought them to class.
Technically, sensei is one of the most knowledgeable guitarist in Singapore. Be it Pop, Rock, Jazz or Blues or Metal, you name it. He is always willing to share his knowledge. What I love most is when he shares his improvised riffs during our jamming sessions during lessons.
Lastly, sensei is not only a worthy teacher but also a worthy friend. Sometimes, we chat about life and all, and his ears are always open to listen to what I have to say. Be it the situation, he will always advice, encourage and motivate me be it music or personal matters.
Being in the music industry in Singapore isn't an easy thing to do. But seeing how he has spent his entire life in this industry proves his love, passion and dedication towards music. Regardless of the struggles, he has always hanged in there.

❝ I started learning the guitar at age 14 but only decided to take it seriously at 17. I decided that I wanted to attend Lasalle College of The Arts Singapore, to pursue a career in music. That is when I met Rosli and everything changed.
When I first started, I had no former training and had no direction. But Rosli took me in as his student and agreed to guide me on my journey. He helped me build good foundation for which would in the future prepare me, for my aspirations and goals.

Not only did he develop me as a guitar player, he also helped me understand the complex philosophies that come hand in hand with regards to pursuing music as a career. This contributed greatly to who am I today in terms of my artistry and uniqueness.

He has a very unique way of simplifying musical concepts so that you can understand easily whether you have learnt theory before.
He also caters his lesson plans for what you wish to learn, like for me I mostly do technical exercises and music theory because that’s what interests me.

I have been playing guitar for more than 20 years and to be honest, most times, it was just about learning very specific songs or even parts of the song. My main joy was therefore in trying to perfect songs or trying to play as fast as possible without knowing what I was playing.
This made me plateau after a few years and I stopped playing after that. My interest only picked up again when I started jamming with a few friends. I realized that I neither knew how to solo nor to even play along in time and very embarrassingly, the only scale I knew how to play was shape 1 of the pentatonic scale.
Fortunately, I knew of Rosli from many years back and started taking lessons from him. To be honest, it totally blew my mind as I didn't realize there was so much mechanics and considerations that goes behind a song. What made the lessons even better was not just the theories, but also on how to utilize these knowledge on a practical basis.
As a teacher, Rosli has been an amazing mentor and is extremely knowledgeable and skillful. It seriously helped that he was also very very patient as there has been many times when I have not been able to practice in the week, but he was totally understanding and still explained and work through the various lessons for the day. He is also very motivating and I honestly look forward to every lesson as there is always gonna be something fun there.
If I could turn back time, I would definitely have started learning from Rosli way earlier and I am quite certain that I would be in a very different trade!!!!

Throughout my music journey with Mr.Rosli, I learn and see more things that I didn’t even knew existed for years. Till now, I am still learning new things and I hope to achieve even more through him.
